SCADA
-
Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition. This term is normally used
within the context of a data acquisition system that uses the data for
near real time control of remote equipment. As such, SCADA is often used
to cover any type of remote data acquisition systems used in oil, gas,
petrochemical, electrical substation, water, waste water, and environmental
industries.

Telemetry
-
Used within the context of this paper, telemetry refers to the gathering
of remote field data destined for use within an enterprise but may not
be used for near real time control as such. Today the term “Telemetry”
and the term “SCADA” are used interchangeably.

EFM
-
Electronic Flow Measurement. Popular acronym for a subset of a SCADA or
Telemetry system wherein a portion of the information is used for the purpose
of measuring and accounting of product flow and daily volumes.

Automatic Meter Reading.

Last Known Good. Term used to describe a piece of data which was previously
published, and which may by now be out of date, but is nonetheless the
last known good value.
